This whole undertaking is part of an initiative called ”Pushback Productions”. It is organized by an association called ”Schlesische 27” located in Berlin.
”We want to draw attention to the social and political dimension of production and consumption, highlighting the political and social implications of migration. With partners in Benin, Kenya and Cameroon, we are experimentally reversing the roles and organising pushbacks of European waste back to Europe. As the core of our creative campaign, we intercepted half a tonne of old clothes, previously shipped from Europe to Africa, in the three countries, repackaged them and sent them back to Berlin. Re-import: We are taking the absurdity of the system a turn further and creating a concrete image, mirrored and turned upside down, of how exploitative colonial structures are literally keeping their heads above water to this day.”
